When the treatment of breast cancer necessitates the removal of the entire breast (mastectomy), the breast can be reconstructed either during the same operation or at a later date when the cancer therapy is complete. Several surgical steps are usually required. The breast is reconstructed using either autologous tissue or a silicone implant. An expander is sometimes needed to stretch the skin before being exchanged for the definitive prosthesis. SERAGYN^® BR PA / SERASYNTH^® MESH BR mesh implants are used for fixation and, with appropriately placed sutures, prevent the expander or prothesis from slipping downwards or sideways.

SERAGYN^® BR PA / SERASYNTH^® MESH BR are soft mesh implants to support and bridge the body's natural tissues. They are designed to meet anatomical requirements and can be tailored to the individual patient. Within a short period of time, the meshes are integrated into the tissue structure through cell ingrowth. They are largely or completely absorbed, with only a small fraction of the partially absorbable mesh remaining in the body. This ensures sustained optimal stability. The materials used for SERAGYN^® BR PA / SERASYNTH^® MESH BR ensure that the meshes are well tolerated and provide a high degree of patient satisfaction. SERAGYN^® BR PA / SERASYNTH^® MESH BR mesh implants are extremely stable. Their structure allows ingrowth of the body's own tissue with very little mesh shrinkage, thus ensuring sufficient stability and high wearing comfort for the patient.

Before the operation, SERAGYN^® BR PA can be soaked in a sterile solution such as LAVANID^® 1/2 wound irrigation solution. This makes the mesh softer, more flexible and thus easier for the surgeon to handle. Just a few minutes immediately before the operation is usually sufficient. Irrigation solutions with preservatives, such as LAVANID^® 1/2 wound irrigation solutions, offer the additional advantage of an infection prophylaxis. LAVANID^® 1/2 wound irrigation solutions are also suitable for use during surgery or when making the final wound closure at the end of the operation. Free drainage of the solution must be ensured when it is used to irrigate parts of the body.
